Eid ul-Fitr 2026 - The day of Sevaiyan and Meethi Eid
Eid ul-Fitr which is popular as Meethi Eid is just about to be celebrated and the sacred time of Ramadan will come to an end with the Eid Ul-Fitr 2026 celebrations. Eid ul-Fitr in India is celebrated a day after it is celebrated in Saudi Arabia and Saudi has confirmed the date as Friday, March 20, 2026 and thus Eid ul-Fitr 2026 in India will be observed on Saturday, March 21st, 2026.
After the 30-day Ramazan period of fasting comes to an end which is a holy month of fasting, discipline, patience and faith. Ramadan and Eid Ul-Fitr signify:
Celebrations start early morning:
1. Namaz
In Eidgahs or Masjid, Muslims gather to read Namaaz and offer prayers.
2. Charity or Zakat al-Fitr
Charity or a part of their income is to be donated by all capable Muslims.
3. Unity:
“Eid Mubarak,” echoes everywhere and near and dear ones wish each other and celebrate together
4. Festive Meals
Various items like sewaiyan, sheer khorma, biryani, etc. in large quantities are prepared and shared with everyone irrespective of their social status.
5. Visiting Loved Ones:
Families visit relatives and friends, strengthening bonds and spreading happiness.
Eid ul-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide and majorly in countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, UK, USA and others.
In India, in Delhi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Allahabad and Mumbai major grand celebrations happen in areas like Chandni Chow, Jama Masjid etc and fairs are organised.
Even Hindus participate in these celebrations with their Muslim friends.
