HOLI 2026 - THE FESTIVAL OF COLOURS AND ENERGY
Holi 2026 the colourful festival of energy, of vibrance, of bonding, of togetherness, of rang, of Gulaal, of colours, of enjoyment and of unity is here. The start of the spring season is marked by this festival and as a reminder that Good always defeats anything that is wrong and evil. Holi 2026 will be celebrated on Wednesday, 4th of March, 2026. The festival spans over a period of 3 days:
Holika Dahan is observed on Phalgun Purnima but beyond the Bhadra Kaal. After sunset during Shubh Muhurat, a sacred bonfire is lit and people gather around and pray. This year Purnima Tithi starts at 17:55 on 02nd March, 2026 and continues till 17:07 on 03rd Mar, 2026.
Bhadra Kaal Starts at 17:56 PM on 02nd March, 2026 and continues till 05.28 AM on 03rd March 2026. This year there is Chandra Grahan on the Udya Tithi Purnima date i.e. on 03rd of March 2026. Sutak Kaal Start Time is 6:23 AM on 3rd March, 2026 and End Time is 6:47 PM on 3rd March, 2026, during which Holika Dahan cannot be performed.
Thu some are doing Holika Dahan on 02nd of March, 2026 and some on 03rd of March, 2026 after Sutak Kaal ends.
Holi dates back to demon king Hirankashyapu and his son Prahlad. Holika Dahan is the day which represents destruction of pride and ego and victory of faith and devotion. Narasimha, the avatar of Vishnu appeared and protected Prahlad from deceit and evil of his father.
In many areas, regions, Holi is about celebrating the divine love of Radha and Krishna. The day thus symbolizes happiness, love, gratitude, gratefulness, harmony, new start and beginnings, joy, harvest, communal bonding, sharing and togetherness.
Holi can be celebrated in both traditional and modern ways:
1. Play with Organic and Natural and herbal Colors: Use colours made from flowers and fruits to keep it environment friendly.
2. Holika Dahan : On Holika Dahan night, families come together to do Puja and offer coconut, grains, bade and do Parikrama.
3. Rangwali Holi : People will play Holi with colours, water, gulaal, flowers and sing and dance. Eat home made Gujiya, Pua, Pakode, laddu, Nimki, Jalebi and Thandai.
4. Community Celebrations : Societies organise rain dance, Dj programs, swimming pool holi etc.
5. Devotional angle: In Braj, phoolon ki holi and bhajans all around can be experienced.

Braj Ki Holi in Mathura and Vrindavan

Barsana – Lathmar Holi
The famous Lathmar Holi is played in Basrana where women playfully hit men with Lathis sticks reenacting the play of Radha and Krishna. and men save themselves and thus the name.
Hola Mohalla, the traditional observance of Sikh community is organized by Nihang Sikhs where martial arts and mock battles are displayed and everyone thereafter participates in Langar.
Basanta Utsav
In Shantiniketan, Holi is called Basanta Utsav where followers dress up in yellow and do cultural dance (Rabindranath Tagore is an inspiration here).

Royal family Mewar organizes Holika Dahan ceremony at Udaipur City Palace and traditional Rajasthani celebration follows.
