Holika Dahan is observed on Phalgun Purnima but beyond the Bhadra Kaal. After sunset during Shubh Muhurat, a sacred bonfire is lit and people gather around and pray. This year Purnima Tithi starts at 17:55 on 02nd March, 2026 and continues till  17:07 on 03rd Mar, 2026.

Bhadra Kaal Starts at 17:56 PM on 02nd March, 2026 and continues till 05.28 AM on 03rd March 2026. This year there is Chandra Grahan on the Udya Tithi Purnima date i.e. on 03rd of March 2026. Sutak Kaal Start Time is 6:23 AM on 3rd March, 2026 and End Time is 6:47 PM on 3rd March, 2026, during which Holika Dahan cannot be performed.

Thu some are doing Holika Dahan on 02nd of March, 2026 and some on 03rd of March, 2026 after Sutak Kaal ends.

Spiritual Significance of Holi 2026

Holi dates back to demon king Hirankashyapu and his son Prahlad. Holika Dahan is the day which represents destruction of pride and ego and victory of faith and devotion. Narasimha, the avatar of Vishnu appeared and protected Prahlad from deceit and evil of his father.

Anandpur Sahib – Hola Mohalla

Hola Mohalla, the traditional observance of Sikh community is organized by Nihang Sikhs where martial arts and mock battles are displayed and everyone thereafter participates in Langar.

In Shantiniketan, Holi is called Basanta Utsav where followers dress up in yellow and do cultural dance (Rabindranath Tagore is an inspiration here).
