The Hindu Panchang is governed by the position of the moon or lunar placement and spans for around 355 days which is a little less than the Solar calendar of 365 days. To unify this difference, and to make sure that all religious observances occur in their allot season, the concept of Adhik Maas (also known as Purushottam Maas) was introduced which is adjusted one every two or three years.
This year, Jyeshtha 2026 and Adhik Maas are in unison which is the cause behind Jyeshtha spanning around 60 days. The Adhik Jyeshtha 2026 period starts on May 17th and runs till June 15th causing the longer duration. Adhik Maas is devoted to Bhagwan Vishnu and thus the rituals performed during this period give multifold results.
