Maa Chandraghanta: Worshipped on Day 3 of Navratri, माँ चंद्रघंटा की पूजा कैसे करें, पूजा विधि और मंत्र यहां जाने

The third day of Navratri, which is a nine-day festival committed to the worship and adoration of Maa Durga and her nine divine forms is falling on 24th and 25th of september, 2025. Maa Chandraghanta is the devi roop who is worshipped on Day 3 or tritiya of Navratri. Navratri is a time of adherence, loyalty, spiritual introspection, devotion and celebration which takes place all across the diverse country of India. Every day of this nine day festival is dedicated and signified to a different form of Maa Durga and the third day is devoted to Maa Chandraghanta.

The Divine Form of Maa Chandraghanta

Maa Chandraghanta came to be known so because there is a crescent moon (Chandra) embellished in her forehead which is in the shape of a bell (Ghanta). The crescent moon placed on her head is a symbolic representation of knowledge, wisdom and serenity. The bell is a symbolic representation that the musical sound that the ringing bell represents is the sound that demolishes all negative energy and negativity.

Maa Chandraghanta rides a robust tiger which is a living representation of fortitude and gallantry and in her pictures she is shown to have ten hands. All the hands are holding different meaningful items. One hand holds the trident, one holds the mace, one holds the sword and one holds the flower lotus. One hand of Maa Chandraghanta is in constant Abhaya Mudra (the signal of granting courage and fearlessness).

Maa Chandraghanta has a golden serene complexion which seems as if she is radiating divinity and positive energy. Her expressions are a mix of strength and compassion which is the living example of perfect balance of fierceness and calmness. Maa Chandraghanta is a symbolic representation and example of how a balance of strength and serenity is required to overcome any obstructions in life and to maintain inner stability and peace of mind.

Significance of Day 3 of Navratri

Each da of Navratri is an auspicious occasion. The third day of Navratri also is a prompt that life is a combination of the good and the bad and of easy and difficult. Praying to Maa Chandraghanta on the third day of Navratri is said to let overcome fears, remove any barriers that are in the way and will also save those praying to her from any negativity coming their way. She symbolizes that everyone is strong like a warrior from within, one just needs to face their fears with ascertainment and determination and still have faith and tranquility within.

Those praying to Maa Chandraghanta have always believed that their prayers will instill self-worth and self-confidence, explicitness of perspective and spiritual awakening. Mata’s divinity is believed to activate the Manipura Chakra (solar plexus chakra), which is correlated with positivity, vigour, determination and self control.

Puja Vidhi and rituals to be followed for Maa Chandraghanta’s Puja

Those following the puja of Navratri should wake up early, bath and offer pushp (fresh flowers), dhoop (incense), phal (fruits) nariyal (coconut) and panchamrit (mix of 5 sacred elements). The idol or picture of Maa Chandraghanta is offered Red chunri and also decorated with the same or a diffrent red chunri (stole). Sweet offerings such as kalakand and kheer (sweet rice pudding) are prepared as it is believed that Maa Chandraghanta is fond of these. One should constantly chant the below mentioned mantras like:

“Om Devi Chandraghantayai Namah” and

“Pindaj Pravararudha Chandakop Astra Kairyuta,
Prasadam Tanute Mahyam Chandraghanteti Vishruta.”

It is believed that if one repeatedly chants this mantra it invites divine energy. Reciting this mantra creates a protective spiritual shield around so that no negativity, bad thoughts, emotional upheaval or mental turmoil can enter your mind. These mantras cleanse the mind so much so that all negativity is washed away and the mind is full of new hope and zeal. This auspicious day is about pleading Maa Chandraghanta for strength, fearlessness, emotional balance and positivity.

For those who are fasting during Navratri, this will be the third day of vrat(fast). It is suggested that you should constantly hudrate yourselves with water, juices, dahi, lassi and coconut water. People who are abstaining from grains (anaaj) and table salt can assume kuttu ke parathe or puri, sabadana cutlets or khichdi, potato curry (aloo ki sabzi), nuts fries in ghee and can use sendha namkr or pink salt.

Colour of the day

The third day of Navratra is signifies by the Royal blue colour. It is believed that if devotees wear Royal blue colored clothes on this day it will pave the path for your feelings to reach Maa Chandraghanta. Royal blue colour is a portrayal of wealth, health, prosperity and strength. The colour also is like an ode to the liveliness of life.

Maa Chandraghanta is one of the most powerful forms of Maa Durga or Goddess Durga who is a symbol of both valour and poise, strength and serenity. Everyone should take a lesson from the divine feminine power that in order to be strong it is not needed to hurt the weak and that strength should be used for destruction of all that is wrong and evil and to protect the weak. It also teaches that maintaining mental balance and spiritual strength is the most important objective for a happy life.
