Significance of Maa Siddhidatri

Maa Siddhidatri who is ninth roop of the supreme feminine divinity, Maa Durga is worshipped on the ninth day of Navratri which is known as Maha Navmi. Maa Siddhidatri is admired and respected as the holy provider of all the eight Siddhis (Higher spiritual powers and perfections). It is considered that Maa blesses her worshippers with both health and wealth, inner and outer strength and happiness. Maa’s name in itself is an amalgamation of two words: Siddhi and Datri. Siddhi means higher powers or spiritual powers and datri means the one who gives thus Maa Siddhidatri is the provider of these higher spiritual powers.

As per Hindu Mythology, even Lord Shiva had been able to accomplish all the SIddhis when he worshipped Maa Siddhidatri. Mythology explains here that the reason behind Maa Siddhidatri also being called as Ardhanarishwari (half God and half woman) is that when Lord Shiva worshipped her, the union of Maa and Lord Shiva happened. On the left side was Maa Siddhidatri and the right side was Lord Shiva, which came to be known as the perfect blend of Shiv and Shakti. Thus, Maa is considered to be the perfect representation of balance, perfection, health, wealth and spirituality.

Many devotees observe vrat (fast) and perform Kanya Puja or Kanjak Puja where nine young girls representing nine forms of Maa Durga are honored and worshipped at their homes, so that they can please Maa and come closer to her. Maa shows her followers and devotes the path of virtue , integrity, self-confidence and morality. Maa is seen sitting on a lotus and her ride is a lion. Maa Siddhidatri resides on a lotus and sometimes depicted riding a lion.
