Sheetala Ashtami 2026 - Worship of Sheetala Mata for relief and safeguard from diseases
Sheetala Ashtami 2026 is a very significant observance in Hinduism wherein Sheetala Mata is worshipped. It isa popular belief in India that Maa Sheetala shields her devotees from medical conditions and diseases mostly from those one which are caused by infections and also in cases of serious ailments.

Sheetala Ashtami is observed annually a few days after Holi which is mostly in the month of March. This revered observance is also known as Basoda or Basora, which translates to eating Basi Khana or food which has been prepared a day before. It is believed that one should not cook on the occasion of Sheetala Ashtmi and should offer the Basi Khana which has been prepared a day before to Maa with dedication and full rituals,

It is however advised that for maximum benefits the Puja should be performed during Brahma Muhurat which is the time during sunrise as this is the most sacred time.
The word “Sheetala” has originated from the word “Sheetal” which means thandak or coolness. Sheetla Mata protects and safeguards her followers from illnesses like fever, infections and other skin ailments and diseases. As per mythological sagas, Maa rides a donkey and carries a broom, a pot of healing water and neem leaves.
Traditionally, people started praying to Sheetala Mata for providing them relief from seasonal issues like smallpox, measles majorly sicknesses that require coolness during and after treatment. Maa Sheetala is today also prayed for good health, protection from infections and physical and mental well-being.
It is popular that offering cool and Baasi or stale brings happiness to Maa and represents coolness and balance.

1. Prepare Food a day prior or on Sheetala Saptami 2026 on 10th March, 2026 and main dishes are puri, halwa, rabri, kheer and dishes made from dahi or curd.
2.Wake up and Bathe at Brahm Muhurat or at sunrise and wear clean clothes.
3. Visit Sheetala Mata Mandir if possible or if doing Puja at home make sure to offer neem leaves, flowers, haldi, kumkum and GangaJal.
4. Offer Basoda or Basi or Stale Food (Stale Food) to Sheetala Maa and make sure to put Neem leaves for a sign of healing.
5. Read or listen to cite Prayers to Sheetala Ashtami Katha and thereafter distribute the Prasad to everyone around you.
