In some regions, especially Maharashtra, the festival is observed as Vat Purnima on Jyeshtha Purnima instead of Amavasya on which it is celebrated in most areas.
The most auspicious time for Vat Savitri Puja is during the morning hours after sunrise. Devotees generally avoid Rahu Kaal and prefer completing the Banyan tree worship before noon.
Vat Savitri Vrat 2026 represents spousal love, trust, dependency on each other, worth in each other’s life, loyalty and spiritual strength. The Banyan tree or Vat Vriksh is worshipped because it is said to represent eternity or immortality and divinity’s Ashirwaad.

Savitri was a very wise and a devoted princess who chose Satyavan as her husband despite knowing that he will die within a year. After marriage, she remained deeply devoted and faithful to him and extreme Tap and Vrat for her husband.
On the fateful day, Satyavan fainted while cutting wood in the forest. Soon, Yam, the God of death appeared to take his soul. Savitri followed Yam with stern intentions and grit. Impressed by her devotion and intelligence, Yam granted her several boons.
Using her wisdom carefully, Savitri ultimately asked for 100 children and a happy married life. Since this was impossible without Satyavan being alive, Yam had to give back Satyavan’s life. Thus, Savitri’s dedication and love towards her husband even defeated death,
