Sri Mokshagundam Visvesvarayawas born on 15th September 15, 1861, in a small town named Muddenahalli, Karnataka. He was an exemplary engineer, intellect, avid reader and statesman or an administrator whatever you may feel like calling. He completed his graduation in civil engineering from the University of Bombay and then went on to become a pioneer in the area of engineering especially civil engineering. His commendable contribution to the world of design in civil engineering and legislating one of its kind irrigation systems, water supply schemes, and flood control projects which went to become the turning point in modern day agriculture system and modern and urban living.
The Krishna Raja Sagar Dam in Karnataka, which was constructed to assure water supply and also to mount the growth of industrial sector is one of the marvels constructed by Sir M. Visvesvaraya. He was the 19th Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918 and brought in numerous changes that paced industrialization, education system, construction and infrastructure development. To recognize and honour the selfless service, in 1955 Sir M. Visvesvaraya was awarded the Bharat Ratna which is the highest civilian award in India.
