In the state of Jammu and Kashmir Bakra Eid 2026 will still be celebrated on Wednesday, the 27th of May, 2026. In other parts of India, it is Public Holiday on Thursday, the 28th of May, 2026 in banks, central government and state government organizations, schools and colleges.

What Happens During Bakra Eid 2026?

Followers get up early and after taking a bath head to the mosques or open prayer grounds for special Eid prayers. Families greet each other with “Eid Mubarak,” or “Bakrid Mubarak” with hugs and sweets.

Bakra Eid 2026 commemorates the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son when he was asked by Allah. But just before the sacrifice could happen, Allah gave him a ram and told him to sacrifice it rather than his son and thus this day came to be known as Eid al-Adha.

The main ritual of Bakra Eid 2026 is Qurbani (sacrifice). Followers sacrifice Bakra or goat, sheep or camel. The meat is divided into three parts:
