- Avoid unnecessary travel.

One and all should know about the story of Prahlad and Holika. Raakshas Raja Hiranyakashipu wanted everyone to consider him as the deity. But his own son Prahlad was a devotee of Bhagwan Vishnu. In his rage, Hiranyakashyap told his sister Holika who had a boon that fire cannot burn her to sit ina bon fire with Prahlad on her lap so that Prahlad dies and does not challenge his authority.
Such was the devotion of Prahlad that he escaped unharmed from this bonfire while Holika burnt to ashes despite her boon. From then onwards, Holika Dahan is a representation of:

1. Pre ritual Preparations
- Collect wood and cow dung cakes and create a bonfire structure as high as possible for Dahan
- Place a small symbol of Prahlad nearby (purely optional)

- Perform puja before lighting the bonfire and pray to Bhagwan Vishnu and ask to protect you from mental and worldly barriers and bring peace and prosperity.
- Offer roli, chawal, pushp, nariyal and newly harvested grains

1. Mathura and Vrindavan (Uttar Pradesh)
In Mathura and Vrindavan, Holika Dahan is very special and starts dayds in advance with temple rituals, devotional songs and traditional Braj ki Holi with Lord Krishna and Radha.

In Barsana, Holika Dahan happens the Lathmar Holi tradition. Women playfully hit men with sticks in a symbolic re-enactment of Krishna’s playful teasing of Radha and her friends.
