Kalashtami May 2026: Puja Vidhi

1. Early Morning Bath

Wake up and take bath at Brahm Muhurat and wear white or saffron clothes.

2. Sankalp

Take vow to do vrat honestly.

3. Clean the Puja Area

Put a picture of Kaal Bhairava or Bhagwan Shiva and light a diya with sarso tel or til ka tel.

4. Offerings

  • Kala Til or Black sesame seeds
  • Mustard oil
  • Flowers
  • Coconut
  • Fruits and sweets made from Gur
  • Kaali Urad or Black Urad Dal

5. Mantra Chanting and Puja

  • “Om Kalabhairavaya Namah”
  • Kala Bhairava Ashtakam
  • Shiva Chalisa or Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra

6. Fasting or Vrat

Doing Nirjala Vrat or Phalahari Vrat is recommended. If doing Phalahari Vrat eat only fruits and milk. Many follow the ritual of eating only one sattvic meal after Puja.

7. Feeding Dogs and the Poor

Feeding black dogs and helping needy people is considered very significant on this day.
