Navratri /Navratra or Durga Puja whatever you may want to fondly call it has arrived and has just tapped the doors of all those celebrating it. Just like the nine colours of Navratri, this festival is also one of the most reverberating and mind boosting festivals in India. Celebrated across a span of 9 days and then finally bids adieu to one and all in a very grand way called Vijayadashami.

Every Indian festival has a teaching and a learning attached to it. Much like that, Navratri or Durga Puja is the connotation that dharma always defeats adharma, good always wins over evil. Navratri brings along with it a gush of positivity. It seems as if the nine colours, the puja bells, the mantras, the arti, the diyas, the dhak (kind of a drum that is played in West Bengal during Durga puja) is pushing away all the sorrow and the gloom and releasing positive vibes in the air.
Navratri 2025 or Durga Puja is beginning on the 22nd of September, 2025 and just like the name suggests will be celebrated over a period of 9 nine nights and thereby nine colours are personified. But sometimes it so happens that one of the days is spread over a period which extends to more 24 hours. Even this year the third day or tritiya is spread for a period which is more than 24 hours and thus it will be celebrated on two consecutive days.
Mahaashtami this year will be celebrated on the 30th of september, 2025 andthe last day of Navratri which is the Mahanavmi will be celebrated on the 1st of October, 2025. The grand celebration of Vijayadashami will happen on the 2nd of October, 2025 where it is depicted that Lord Shri Rama kills Ravana, the ten headed demon and establishes the divine empire of dharma defeating adharma.
Nine Colours of Navratri 2025: The Power of Each Day

- Day 1 – White:
Dedicated to Mata Shailputri the colour white signifies the blessing of peace, strength and purity. White has always signified serenity. If one wears this colour on the first day of Navratri 2025, it will fill life with calmness and inspiration. - Day 2 – Red
The second day is dedicated to Mata Brahmacharini, symbolizing love. and determination. Just like the chunri (red cloth) and sindoor (vermillion) which is offered to Maa Durga, the colour red signifies love for the almighty and the determination of belief. - Day 3 – Royal Blue
The third day honours Mata Chandraghanta and is signified by Royal blue colour. This colour is a representation of wealth, health and prosperity. The colour also is like an ode to the liveliness of life. - Day 4 – Yellow:
The Day 4 is for honouring Mata Kushmanda and the colour yellow is attributed to it. The colour yellow signifies positivity, glory, brightness and happiness. The colour yellow will bring joy and cheer. - Day 5 – Green:
Day 5 honours Mata Skandamata and the colour green is the colour of the day amongst the nine colours. The colour green stands for growth, harmony and fertility. Adorning the colour green on this day will invite beautiful new beginnings in life. - Day 6 – Grey :
The sixth day is for praying to Mata Katyayani. This day is symbolized by the colour grey. The colour grey is a very neutral, balanced colour and thus wearing it on this day will bring balance and clarity in thoughts and in life. - Day 7 – Orange
This day is for praying to Maa Kalaratri, who is a symbol of demolition and destruction of evil. As the evil is destroyed, thus peace and warmth will prevail. Thus wearing this colour orange will bring cheerfulness, light heartedness and high spirits. - Day 8 – Peacock Green::
Maa Mahagauri is worshipped on the eighth day who symbolizes motherly feelings and love. This motherly loves brings in compassion and the will and confidence to try something new. Thus, wearing peacock green on this day blesses with compassion and individuality. - Day 9 – Pink
The Mahanavmi or the ninth and final day is for praying to Maa Siddhidatri blessings and pink is the colour of the day. Wearing pink on this day makes you loved and liked by all as it is a very charming colour. The colour pink represents communal love and compassion.

Navratri is more than just wearing these above mentioned nine colours on the nine days which not only brings uniformity, but also makes one appreciate the need for empathy, peace, wisdom, mental peace and always being truthful to one self.
