Shatilla Ekadashi 2026- observe it with devotion on January 14 2026
Shatilla Ekadashi is one of the most spiritually significant and auspicious Ekadashi fasts which is observed by followers of Lord Vishnu. This Ekadashi is celebrated in the sacred month of Magha, this Ekadashi is unique because it emphasizes the use of til (sesame seeds) in religious rituals, charity and fasting practices. Shatilla Ekadashi 2026 is widely observed with deep devotion by millions of devotees across India who seek purification, forgiveness of sins, and divine blessings.
According to traditional customary texts like the Bhavishyottara Purana, Shatilla Ekadashi’s story teaches the balance between devotion and compassion: A devoted wealthy Brahmani was very spiritual in her beliefs and practices but failed to share food or help the needy.Bhagwan Vishnu was very unhappy with this behaviour of hers and eventually appeared in disguise and asked for food and as per expectation, she denied to give food.
After her death, she was reborn into misery due to her lack of charity. When she later observed Shatilla Ekadashi and offered sesame seeds with devotion, Lord Vishnu was pleased and blessed her with prosperity and salvation. After doing the Vrat and Puja with full faith, she received divine grace and blessings. This teaches that charity and compassion must accompany devotion otherwise all goes in vain.
