History of Sita Navami 2026

One can read about when Sita Navami originated in the great epic Ramayana. Raja Janak of Mithila had no children, and one when he was ploughing the field in the month of Vaisakh on Navami when a little baby girl emerged from the Earth. He named the child “Sita”.

Sita means Furrow” or “plough line” in connection to the fact that she was found from the Earth.

She is an avatar of Mata Lakshmi and eventually married Prabhu Sri Ram who was the seventh avatar of Bhagwan Vishnu. Mata Sita’s life had many turns, ups and downs, faith, sacrifices, love towards her husband, pride which was an inspiration to many.
