Malamas 2026 is a very rare and a very devotional time for Puja, Archana, Vrat, Faith, Daan and Introspection. What Does Malamas 2026 Mean?

“Malamas” means the “impure month” in Sanskrit. This name has originally been given as no big festivals, marriages, Grih Pravesh, Mundan or new businesses are observed during this period. But, nonetheless this time is spiritually one of the purest.

It is said that, when this extra lunar month was not paid attention by the Gods, this month went on and requested Bhagwan Vishnu and the deity blesse the month with extreme spirituality. Thus, it became known as Purushottam Maas, a month capable of washing away sins, cleansing the mind and the body and ringing it divinity.

Why Does Malamas Occur?

The Hindu lunar calendar is based on the placement of the Moon, while the solar calendar is governed by Sun. As the lunar year is around 11 days shorter than a solar year, an extra month is added approximately every three years to maintain balance between the two systems. This additional month used for adjustment is called Adhik Maas or Malamas.

  • Go for sacred bath and sacred dip
  • Recite “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya”
  • Visit Vishnu and Krishna temples
  • Observe the 2 Ekadashi fasts strictly
