It is believed that in small kids especially young girls (usually aged 2–10) the Supreme Feminine energy or Shakti resides. During Chaitri Navratri, nine forms of Maa Durga are worshipped and on Ashtami and Navami either eight or nine girls respectively are worshipped to invite and thank Maa Durga.
